"yr face", WE R NO THING. Davenport, Henry Moore Institute, 2011. |
Philip Davenport, editorial statment
I was invited by karl kempton to be Co-Editor of this blog and to make a selection of visual poetry works from people based in Europe, where I live. Selections like these are often full of established practitioners. I've already made an anthology called THE DARK WOULD in 2013, which gathered well-known poets and text artists, plus many less-known. So, for this current selection I wanted to approach people whose work I was less familiar with. They're often younger people; several have been suggested to me, other practioners have not been as celebrated as they should and so I've re-balanced those 'books'. I have also made a couple of people honorary Europeans for my selection -- this work is about questioning borders, not imposing them.
I am looking forward to other gatherings from Guest Editors situated in other parts of the world, apart from Europe and the USA. I'd be especially keen to see the contributions from our Bengali hosts, from Arabic practitioners, and people working in Chinese, put together by editors hailing from those communities...
Thanks are due to all the contributors, to Bruno Neiva for helping with the uploads and to our blog hosts Anindya Ray and Shuddhobroto Rauth.
