Guest Editor 2, Harry Polkinhorn

Editorial statement

The Argentinean choices by Harry
Polkinhorn have been drawn from the anthology The Blind Spot: Anthology of Argentinean Visual Poetry: from 7000 BC to the third millennium.

Adding to our knowledge of the riches of visual poetry stemming from Latin America, this anthology is unique in its scope and presentation. It sets a context originating in early rock art while concentrating in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The inclusion of critical texts helps the reader/viewer find an orientation in an aesthetic landscape often either neglected or simply misunderstood. Furthermore, the work challenges narrow cultural constraints by simultaneously being a U.S. publication aimed at a Spanish-dominant readership, and of course the rich visual texts themselves oftentimes transcend the limitations of monolingual readers in any language.

The Blind Spot: Anthology of Argentinean Visual Poetry: from 7000 BC to the third millennium / El Punto Ciego: Antología de la Poesía Visual Argentina: de 7000 AC al Tercer Milenio, by Jorge Santiago Perednik (Fabio Doctorovich, editor; Carlos Estevez, selection of works; texts by Fernando García Delgado, Fabio Doctorovich, Carlos Estevez, Jorge Santiago Perednik), published by San Diego State University Press, 2015.
