ReVerse Butcher is a multi-disciplinary artist with focuses in making unique artist’s books, collages, visual art, Virtual & Augmented Reality art, film-making, VISPO, poetry & performance. She will use any medium necessary to engage and subvert reality until it is less dull and oppressive. When she grows up she wants to be a well-read recluse. “I am not very interested in making art or poetry that looks like reality. From my earliest poems, performances, collages & songs, through to my multimedia plays, & work in Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR), I have always been trying to break language. Because, to break language would be to crack consensus reality; to show how meaning is multiple & not fixed; to push back against powers external on how meaning is fixed on our bodies, lives, & creative work(s). Everything is made up of language, especially reality. VR is a giant shared hallucination written in code, AR is a full-scale, interactive art collage of 3D elements in real-time & real-space. Why should text behave, line up left to right, top to bottom? When it fractures, shatters & re-assembles, shifting the weight(s) of the world along with it—I am very much interested in that.”
